Heat Continues, Humidity Abates

Dry air was in place early today through a deep layer of the atmosphere, eliminating the shower and storm potential for all except Central and Northern Maine Tuesday.

With a freshening breeze, that same drier air aloft will mix downward to ground level, continuing to turn a muggy start into a less humid finish. Though moisture content in the air will noticeably decrease for the next few days, the heat will not relent, with high temperatures climbing to or above 90 degrees for most Central and Southern New England communities each afternoon through Thursday.

The nights, owing to decreased humidity, will be mild but surely will be more comfortable than some of our recent muggy nights. By Thursday, an approaching cool front from the north will focus some afternoon showers and thunderstorms in Northern New England, and that same front will stall nearby on Friday, opening the door to enhanced showers and thunderstorms as a disturbance moves in from the southwest.

The biggest question right now is whether we get into the rain shield associated with the system passing to our south or just miss - the way this rain season has gone, a close call is far from a sure bet for rain.

Saturday and Sunday look to bring scattered daytime showers and thunder for some, with temperatures Friday through the weekend cooler than they've been this week, owing to increased humidity and more cloud cover. Next week, our exclusive necn Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast shows high temperatures rebounding back into the 90s by week's end.
