A driver was injured Wednesday after ice flew into the windshield of his car in Londonderry, New Hampshire.
A 22-year-old Londonderry man was driving on Route 102 when police say ice came off a box truck and crashed through the windshield of his car.
The truck was traveling in the opposite direction, police said.
Londonderry Police Captain Patrick Cheetham says the seriousness of the crash can't be overstated.
"I was on scene, I saw the damage to the vehicle," he said. "This could've been a potential fatality."
Cheetham said Thursday that the driver was so badly hurt, he underwent surgery at a Boston hospital. A day earlier, his injuries were described as serious but non-life-threatening.

"Glass was embedded in his eyes and eye sockets," Cheetham explained.
He says it's high time for drivers to understand the tragic consequences of not clearing snow and ice from your car.
"If you can't do it for whatever reason, if you're disabled or elderly, ask a neighbor, ask a family member, call your local police department, we are willing to help," Cheetham said.
The driver of the box truck was not injured. Police said Wednesday that he may face a violation charge of negligent driving and/or a misdemeanor charge of vehicular assault. Cheetham said Thursday that he is expected to be cited for violating Jessica's Law by Friday.
