Communities in Massachusetts saw a number of storms pass through Tuesday afternoon, which in some cases were accompanied by lightning, causing damage.
In Bolton, fire crews responded to a home on Kettle Hole Road after it was struck in by lightning while residents were inside.
"She felt it, heard it and began to smell smoke. Shortly thereafter, she evacuated the house with her children," Bolton Deputy Fire Chief Gery Wilson said.
Wilson said the lightning struck in the back of the home, causing some damage.
"It struck one of the corners of the house, and energized the electrical system in the house as well as the heating system," he said.
A short time later, Weston firefighters responded to a home on Nobscot Road, which was also reported to have been struck by lightning. Homeowners say they were home when the lightning struck a tree in the backyard before traveling to the back porch.
Despite the damage to the porch, they say they're happy no one was hurt.

Back in Bolton, residents were able to return to their home once firefighters finished. However, responding to this type of call has become a new routine for the town. In the last 30 days, Wilson said they have seen a number of lightning strikes. He says having four home struck by lightning but with little damage reported is a positive outcome - especially when each of these incidents had the potential to be much worse.
"Depending on the age of the house, the construction of the house, you know, a lightning strike with just a couple of minutes ... afterwards before the homeowner arrives can make a tremendous deal in the outcome," he said.
