A 13-year-old boy is dead after being underwater for more than 20 minutes on a school field trip at Range Pond State Park in Poland, Maine, according to News Center Maine.
The seventh-grader from Lewiston Middle School was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to officials.
The middle schooler was playing football in a roped-off area Tuesday when he slipped and fell into the pond, which was murky and deep, according to school superintendent Bill Webster.
The boy was found unconscious after about a 20-minute search.
