Cars Stolen, Dumped in Maine River

The Oxford County Sheriff's Office is investigating a string of car thefts, including two in which the stolen vehicles were dumped in the Saco River in Maine.

Four cars were reported stolen in Brownfield and Hiram on Thursday and Friday.

Two of them were found in the river on Sunday near the Hiram and Brownfield town line on Route 113. They were both removed from the water but are considered a total loss.

The other two vehicles were also recovered but both suffered damaged, including one that had been torched.

Police say in all four cases, the owners left their keys in the cars, and are urging people in the area to remove their keys and lock up.

Police think the thefts are related. There have been no arrests.
