Rescuers in Maine used GPS coordinates linked to a cell phone to help a skydiver who went off course during a parachute drop and landed in a swamp.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/29PFT0m ) reports the man was reported missing on Sunday night after he jumped from a plane a little after 8 p.m. Fire officials in Lebanon identified him only as a 66-year-old California resident named Peter.
Skydive New England sent out a crew to look for the skydiver and called for police help after about 40 minutes as darkness descended. Fire officials say the man landed safely in the swamp near Route 202.

The fire officials say the man's general location was determined using GPS coordinates, but he wasn't able to stay on the phone because the battery was dying.
