Death of Woman Whose Body Was Found Along Maine Highway Being Investigated as a Homicide

State police said they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found along a highway in Maine on Wednesday morning as a homicide.

A passing driver found the body around 5:30 a.m.

Route 193 in Cherryfield was temporarily closed after the discovery. The scene is about two to three miles away from Route 1, according to police.

The unidentified woman's body has been transported to the state medical examiner's office and an autopsy is expected to be conducted on Thursday.

Police said they have seized a black 2017 Chevrolet Impala, which was involved in a crash at the intersection of routes 9 and 193 on Tuesday night, about 15 minutes from where the body was located. They said they believe the car is connected to the woman.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who traveled in the area Tuesday night or Wednesday night who may have seen anything that might be related to the investigation is asked to call state police at 207-973-3700.
