Coast Guard Locates Missing Teen Kayaker in Maine

Necn affiliate WCSH reports that he was spotted by a person around 8 Wednesday morning. He spent the night on a small island after getting lost and made his way home.

The Coast Guard has located a kayaker who went missing near Swan's Island in Maine.

Authorities say 18-year-old Jackson Day had last been seen around 10 a.m. Tuesday leaving the island in an eight-foot kayak.

Day was spotted by a person around 8 a.m. Wednesday paddling near the island in Mackerel Cove. He spent the night on a small island after getting lost and made his way home.

The Coast Guard's South Portland command center received a call from Day's mother informing them that he was overdue from his trip.

They launched a search Tuesday night using two life boats out of Southwest Harbor and a helicopter. The Maine Marine Patrol and the Hancock County Sheriff's Department are also involved in the search
