Maine's Republican governor says lawmakers should get back to work and address his proposals to reform the state's struggling child welfare system.
But the details of Gov. Paul LePage's proposals are unknown. His office said Thursday that first drafts of his proposal are in the Legislature's reviser's office.
LePage spokeswoman Julie Rabinowitz said she can't provide the text until legislation is finalized.
Maine child welfare caseworkers' workloads have spiked as call volumes increase and the LePage administration's new policy changes require more assessments of some allegations.
LePage has said his legislation could include computer upgrades and changes to family reunification law.
A legislative watchdog is investigating Maine's child welfare system following the deaths of 10-year-old Marissa Kennedy in February in Stockton Springs and 4-year-old Kendall Chick in December in Wiscasset.
