Overnight Standoff in Dixmont, Maine Contained: State Police

Maine State Police said Friday morning that an 18-hour-long standoff with an individual in Dixmont, Maine is contained and there is no longer a threat to the public.

More than 40 officers, including a bomb squad and tactical units, had been negotiating with a male subject since Thursday afternoon, according to News Center Maine.

The man behind the barricade is being treated for injuries he received as the standoff ended. On Friday morning, he opened fire on state police and struck their robot and armed vehicle. No officers were injured.

The overnight standoff shut down one road, which resulted in about 30 vehicles parked along the road since 2 p.m. Thursday.

The barricade began with a dispute between neighbors that resulted in shots being fired.
