Dog Alerts Sleeping Family to House Fire in Bridgton, Maine

The family and their dog were able to escape the burning home without injury

Fire officials are praising a pet dog for his heroics in alerting a sleeping family to a large scale fire that had broken out at their southern Maine home.

WCSH-TV reports the dog's barking woke up residents of a home on Kansas Shores Road in Bridgton as flames ripped through the structure. The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The family and their dog were able to escape the burning home without injury. Fire crews from eight communities helped Bridgton firefighters extinguish the blaze.

Fire officials say the house sustained severe fire, smoke and water damage but is not considered a total loss.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate the cause of the fire on Monday. The blaze is not considered suspicious at this time.
