Jury Selection to Begin in Trial of Former Maine Tax Collector

Jury selection is scheduled to begin this week in the trial of a former tax collector accused of stealing more than $400,000 from a Maine town.

The Morning Sentinel reports jury selection in Somerset County Superior Court for the trial of 66-year-old Claudia Viles is set to begin Wednesday. The trial is scheduled for June 20.

Viles pleaded not guilty last year to charges of theft, tampering with public records, failure to make and file state income tax returns and failure to file or pay state income taxes.

Viles resigned in September after an Anson administrative assistant found a discrepancy between how much money she said she collected in 2014 and the amount she actually collected.
