Police in several Maine communities say a scam involving a fake kidnapping isrunning rampant.
According to necn affiliate WCSH, Ellsworth Police say someone calls saying they have kidnapped a child. A child's scream can be heard in the background.
The callers demand ransom money.
Police say not to panic if you get the call and to ask specific questions the caller wouldn't be able to answer about your child.
The calls were coming from 52656-322-5469 Tuesday, but that could change, police warn.
