Maine Bear Hunt Enters End of Busy Stretch While Others Get Going

Maine's bear hunt is entering the final few busy days of the season just as other fall game seasons get going.

The busiest part of the bear hunt is the stretch in which it's legal to use bait to lure bears. That ends on Sept. 21. The rest of the season continues until Nov. 30, but it slows down considerably.

Monday marks the first full day of the fall turkey hunt, which typically attracts thousands of hunters. The hunt lasts until Nov. 7. Hunters are allowed to take more turkeys than in previous years in some parts of the state.

The moose hunt is set to begin on Sept. 23, while the statewide archery season for deer begins in early October. Some archery hunting is already allowed.
