A Maine man convicted of manslaughter in the death of his 3-month-old son has been ordered to serve 4½ years in prison.
A judge imposed the sentence Friday on Dustin Brown, who was 18 when told police his son Xander, went limp during a feeding on Nov. 25, 2012.
The medical examiner determined that the infant died from a head injury, but the defense contended the death was a "medical mystery." An expert testified for the defense contended the infant died from cardiac arrest after choking on formula.
Justice William Anderson rejected a request for Brown to be freed on bail while awaiting the outcome of an appeal to the state supreme court.
