Maine Man Dead After Boating Accident in Mousam Lake

A 31-year-old Shapleigh man died on Saturday evening after a boating accident caused him to fall overboard and get run over by a boat in a cove on the north end of Mousam Lake.

According to Main game wardens, Jeff Beattie was riding in the bow of a 17' motorboat when he fell overboard.

The victim was taken to shore where local residents and rescue personnel performed first aid.  He was then transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford and then taken by Lifeflight to Maine Medical Center.

He later died from his injuries.

The boat was being operated by his twin brother from Sanford, Jonathon who provided a blood sample for drug and alcohol analysis.  Both men were accompanied by their spouses and a friend.

The Maine Warden Service is working with the York County District Attorney's Office as the investigation moves forward.
