Maine Man Pleads Not Guilty in Infant Son's Death

A Maine man says he is not guilty of charges that he killed his infant son.

The Portland Press Herald reports 24-year-old Danny Adams entered his plea on Thursday at Androscoggin Superior Court in Auburn. Police arrested him Jan. 7 at an apartment where he lived with the baby and the child's mother. An investigation by state police and the state medical examiner's office determined the baby died of asphyxiation.

Court papers say Adams told police he had been using heroin and marijuana the night before and was frustrated because the baby wouldn't stop crying. He is charged with depraved indifference murder and manslaughter. Police say Adams told them he forced a pacifier into the baby's mouth and an hour later realized the baby wasn't breathing.
