Maine State Police Probe Apparent Murder-Suicide in Deaths of Man, Child

Officers discovered the two bodies at a Presque Isle home after a standoff

Maine State Police detectives are investigating an apparent murder-suicide following an overnight standoff in Presque Isle that ended in the deaths of a man and a child.

State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland says officers were called early Sunday to a home at 728 Reach Road.

He says officers discovered two bodies when they entered the home. One was of an adult male and the other was a child's.

Based on information investigators have obtained so far, the deaths are being treated as a domestic violence murder-suicide.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, police say.

McCausland says detectives and members or the evidence response team were at the scene Sunday and could return Monday.

The bodies were transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta for autopsies that may take place Monday.
