Maine Toddler Struck, Killed by Car Driven by Family Member

Police in a Maine city say a 1-year-old child died after being struck by a car driven by a family member.

Authorities said the crash took place in an apartment complex parking lot in Lewiston just before 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Sun Journal reports the child was rushed to a hospital, but life-saving efforts were not successful.

Police have not released the names of people involved. They say the accident is being reconstructed and the attorney general's office has been notified. They say there was no indication that the driver was intoxicated when the crash occurred.
