Maine Trooper Who Fired Weapon at Man to Return to Duty

Jefferson ME shooting WCSH

A Maine State Police officer who exchanged gunfire with a man during a standoff has been authorized to return to work after a period of administrative leave.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Sgt. Jason Madore was cleared to return to duty on Wednesday.

Police say 34-year-old Shane Prior, of Cushing, shot his ex-girlfriend in the arm and led troopers on a car chase in Jefferson last week. They say Prior stopped his car and shot his handgun at them. Madore fired shots in return.

Police say the standoff ended when Prior shot himself in the head in his pickup truck. Madore wasn't hurt. The woman, 30-year-old Michelle Creamer, was treated for her injuries.

Authorities say a state police panel will perform an internal review of the shooting.
