Man Charged With Injuring Infant Son Held on $20K Bail

Morgan Gunnell made his first court appearance on Wednesday following a weeklong investigation into bruising on the brain suffered by the infant

A Bangor, Maine, man charged with injuring his 6-month-old son has been ordered held on $20,000 bail.

Morgan Gunnell made his first court appearance on Wednesday following a weeklong investigation into bruising on the brain suffered by the infant.

Prosecutors say the 24-year-old Gunnell called 911 on May 7 and reported that his infant son was unresponsive. The child was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center where the brain injuries were discovered.

Police arrested Gunnell on Tuesday and charged him with aggravated assault and domestic violence assault on a child under the age of six.

The child was still in the hospital on Wednesday but is expected to be released soon.

Gunnell said through a court-appointed lawyer that the child had a seizure and he did not cause the injuries.
