Man Found Guilty of Killing Girlfriend, 2 Kids in Maine

Keith Coleman, of Garland, was on trial in Bangor on three counts of murder in the deaths of 36-year-old Christina Sargent, 10-year-old Duwayne Coke and 8-year-old Destiny Sargent

A jury has found a Maine man guilty of killing his girlfriend and her two children.

Keith Coleman, of Garland, was on trial in Bangor on three counts of murder in the deaths of 36-year-old Christina Sargent, 10-year-old Duwayne Coke and 8-year-old Destiny Sargent.

Police say Coleman told them he chased down and strangled the children because they had witnessed their mother's death. The bodies were found Dec. 20, 2014. His lawyers said that in his confession, he was expressing guilt over not protecting them, not that he actually committed the crimes.

The jury on Thursday also convicted Coleman of one count of gross sexual assault. The panel got the case Wednesday.

Coleman didn't testify in his own defense during the 10-day trial. He faces 25 years to life in prison.
