Officer, Victim Identified in Fatal Shooting in Maine

Officer Ryan Jones is on paid leave pending an investigation

Police in Bangor, Maine, say an officer is on paid administrative leave following a fatal shooting.

Police Chief Mark Hathaway says 23-year-old Joshua Jozefowicz was shot Tuesday night by officer Ryan Jones, a six-year veteran. Jones was not injured in the incident.

Hathaway says the officer pulled over a car in a convenience store parking lot. He says the man got out of the car and took off running toward the woods behind the store. Afterward, a woman who was in the car was taken into custody.

Witnesses report that they heard multiple shots, but police declined to release details of what happened. The attorney general's office is investigating as it does all use of deadly force by police.
