Man Pleads Guilty in Drowning Death of Infant Son

A Lewiston, Maine, man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the drowning death of his 11-month-old son.

The Sun Journal reports
Sean St. Amand was sentenced Wednesday to three years in jail, with all but nine months suspended, and two years of probation.

Police said St. Amand placed his 11-month-old son in a bathtub with the boy's 2-year-old sister on Oct. 20, 2014, then left the room, and when he returned the boy was unresponsive. The official cause of death was drowning.

Police said they smelled marijuana when they entered the apartment and that drug paraphernalia was in plain sight. A man questioned by police said he'd been smoking marijuana with St. Amand but that St. Amand had been checking on the youngsters.

Amand's sentence was stayed until Jan. 2.
