Police say a Massachusetts man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Maine after he helped her escape from a group home.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department said Monday that 58-year-old William Fancis Duffy of Attleboro, Massachusetts, is charged with gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.

Sgt. Paul Thorpe said deputies responded after the victim dialed 911 during the course of being assaulted late Saturday at Duffy's summer home in Sebago, Maine. Thorpe said Duffy corresponded with the 31-year-old victim on a website for abused women before helping her escape from a group home in Carver, Massachusetts.

Duffy, who was arrested early Sunday, was returned to the Cumberland County Jail after making his first court appearance on Monday. It was unknown if he'd retained a lawyer.
