A large mill building in Mechanic Falls, Maine caught fire Sunday afternoon, creating a massive cloud of smoke.

According to the Sun Journal, the Lewiston Street building, which houses several businesses, was destroyed by the fire. It reportedly had several vehicles and parts inside.

The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday but by the time first responders assembled at 1:30 p.m., the fire had fully engulfed the building, the Sun Journal reported.

A portion of the building collapsed just before 2:30 p.m. More than 50 people were standing on a nearby bridge watching as it happened.

According to the Sun Journal, witnesses reported flames that rose at least 80 feet in the sky. A thick, black column of smoke rose from the flames and could be seen from miles away.

Police had to help at least one man out of his apartment, which was located near the end of the mill.

More than two hours after the fire was first reported, thick smoke was still rising from the scene. The Sun Journal reported that there wasn't much left of the mill.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. It is not clear if anyone was inside the building when it caught fire.
