Moose Hunt Entering Final Few Weeks Of Year In Maine

The final and longest stretch of Maine's moose hunt is taking place in central and southwestern parts of the state.

The state divides its moose hunt into four sections, and the final one begins on Monday and runs until Nov. 24. Maine increased the number of moose permits by about 20 percent this year.

The final stretch of the moose hunt is only open in two of the state's wildlife management districts. Hunters are advised to check with authorities before hunting.

October is a busy time for Maine hunters, as the firearms season for deer also recently began. The hunting seasons for game birds including turkey, ruffed grouse and pheasant also are going on now.
