New Details About Suspects in Maine Murder

Friends of a Litchfield, Maine woman allegedly killed by her son and his two teenage friends are revealing new details about events leading up to her brutal murder.

Kimberly Mironovas, 47, was found in her home early Sunday morning. Police arrested her 15 year old son and his two friends from Ashland, Massachusetts, ages 15 and 13.

According to court documents, the teens conspired to poison Mironovas by crushing up pills and putting them in her wine. When that didn't work, the 15-year-old teens strangled her in her bedroom while she slept. Police say her son also stabbed her in the neck.

The 15-year-old son and his 15-year-old friend are facing murder charges. The 13-year-old friend has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. All three have been ordered to undergo mental health evaluations, and are being held at the Longcreek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Prosecutors may make a motion to charge them as adults.

"I still can't believe it," said Sage Lockhart, who was a friend and classmate of Mironovas at the Aveda Institute in Augusta. They were both studying at the beauty school. She said the details of the murder are "chilling" because she spoke to Mironovas about her "troubled" son in the weeks leading up to her death.

Anthony Coco, President of the Aveda Institute, confirmed that Mironovas spoke to her classmates about having issues with her son.

Lockhart said during lunch dates, Mironovas would talk to her about her "angry" son, and ask for advice disciplining him.

"I told her I got my electronics taken away, and I wasn't allowed to go out with friends," said Lockhart. "I tried to say, do stuff like that. But she said it doesn't work. It never works."

Mironovas and her son recently moved to Maine from Massachusetts. Lockhart suspects the son resented his mother for uprooting his life.

The last time Lockhart saw her friend was Saturday -- the day of the murder. She said Mironovas seemed happy, and excited to take her son and his friends out to dinner and ice cream.

Mironovas told Lockhart she let her son invite two friends from Massachusetts to Maine for April vacation.

"She said that he needed to hang out with friends," said Lockhart. "She said she wanted to make him happy."
