The Biddeford, Maine, Police Department is investigating a confrontation between an off-duty Westbrook police officer and a Biddeford man on St. Patrick's Day that ended with a man being pushed through plate-glass window.

Brian McMahon, who manages a barber shop, says the incident unfolded when he tried to open the door of a car in which he thought his wife was passenger. Instead of finding his wife, he found himself facing a gun.

Westbrook police Sgt. John Desjardins, who was off duty, said he thought he was being carjacked. He said McMahan wouldn't back away, so he pushed him, causing the man to lose his balance.

Westbrook police are conducting an internal investigation, and the York County district attorney will determine if any charges are warranted. Neither man was hurt.
