Officer Cleared in Non-Fatal Shooting of Man Armed With Gun

Police say Sean Grossman was armed with a loaded handgun and threatened to take his own life

A Maine police officer has been cleared in the non-fatal shooting of a Westbrook man in April.

The Portland Press Herald reports released that the Maine Attorney General's Office on Tuesday concluded Westbrook Officer Benjamin Hall "reasonably believed there was an imminent threat of unlawful deadly force against him...and others'' when he shot 26-year-old Sean Grossman.

Police say Grossman was armed with a loaded handgun and threatened to take his own life. Authorities say Grossman was engaged in a "physical confrontation'' with another officer when Hall fired one shot that entered the bridge of Grossman's nose and exited through his forehead.

Grossman was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say several charges related to the incident and an earlier encounter with his girlfriend are pending.
