Parents Arrested After Naked Child Found Wandering on Road

Motorists spotted the child walking on Route 4 in Livermore, Maine

Maine authorities say the parents of a 3-year-old girl seen wandering along a road "unattended and unclothed" have been arrested.

The Androscoggin County sheriff says motorists spotted the child Saturday morning walking on Route 4 in Livermore and called 911. A sheriff's spokesman says in a news release Sunday that when deputies arrived, several people had stopped their vehicles and were tending to the child.

The spokesman says the girl and another child, an 18-month-old boy, were taken to a hospital for evaluation and placed with state social services after they were medically cleared.

Arrested and jailed were 32-year-old Courtney D. Abbott and 40-year-old Kerry J. Ross, both of Livermore. They are to be arraigned Monday on child endangerment, drug and weapons charges. A jailer says he didn't know if they had an attorney.
