A judge has rejected a plea agreement that called for a Bangor, Maine, man to serve nine years behind bars for stabbing another man because the sentence was too lenient.
District Court Judge Gregory Campbell said in court Monday that the nine years behind bars for 25-year-old Anthony Bowie agreed upon by the prosecution and defense is not enough time given the seriousness of the injuries to the victim, which included the loss of sight in one eye.
Campbell rejected Bowie's guilty plea to a charge of elevated aggravated assault and scheduled an April trial.
Authorities say Bowie stabbed the victim in the abdomen and head during a fight in June.
Bowie's lawyer says his client was not taking his medications at the time.
