Police: Couple Walks Away From Plane Crash on Maine's Bigelow Mountain

Police say a couple walked away from a small plane crash on Bigelow Mountain, north of Carrabasset Valley, Maine on Thursday morning.

Authorities said the couple was flying from Vermont when the float plane crashed into the side of the mountain range at about 10:30 a.m.

Police said the pilot, Frank Gibney, and his passenger, Diane Muhr, both of Colchester, were not hurt. They were able to hike up the mountain about a half mile, then walk out of the woods along the Appalachian Trail.

When troopers and game wardens responded to the crash, Gibney told them he had been flying alongside another plane which was being piloted by a friend but lost visibility because of weather.

The friend notified first responders who responded to the area.

The exact cause of the crash will be investigated by the FAA.
