Maine State Police say fugitive Robert Burton was spotted Wednesday night along a snowmobile trail in Guilford.
A local resident called authorities after seeing Burton, 38, stepping onto the trail from the woods.
Burton, who has a warrant out for his arrest in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Gebo, was wearing camouflage clothing and was carrying a dark colored backpack.
Police spent several hours in the area, but were unsuccessful in locating him. Their search continues.
He is described as being 5'11 tall and 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Area residents are warned that Burton is considered armed and dangerous.
The body of Gebo, 37, was discovered inside her Parkman home by her two children on June 5.
