Police Investigating Sexual Assault at Bowdoin College

The incident took place in student housing around 10 p.m. Tuesday

Police are investigating after a female student at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, said she was sexually assaulted by a male suspect on Tuesday night.

According to WCSH-TV, the assault took place around 10 p.m. at the Mayflower Apartments, student housing located on Belmont Street.

The college's Office of Safety and Security sent an email to all students and employees on Wednesday regarding the incident. The email said the suspect entered the student's apartment through an unlocked exterior door.

The student was examined at a nearby hospital.

Brunswick Police are investigating, along with Bowdoin Security. Students are asked to remain alert and vigilant and to make sure all apartment and residence hall doors and windows are properly secured.

Bowdoin Security will be increasing patrols in the vicinity of Mayflower Apartments and other areas over the next several days. The college is also providing expanded shuttle capacity for students who would rather ride than walk.
