Police say a man whose body was recovered over the weekend in a 55-acre public park in Portland, Maine, died of an apparent drug overdose.
Officers were dispatched to Deering Oaks around 3:20 p.m. Saturday after the remains of the 41-year-old man were discovered near the park's northwest corner.
Police have not released the man's identity and say there were no signs of any crime at the scene.
Confirmation of the cause of death is pending toxicology tests administered by the state Medical Examiner's Office.
Patrols in the park were increased over the summer following several opiate overdose deaths and continued complaints from visitors regarding the finding of used needles in the area.
A needle disposal box was recently installed in Deering Oaks by the city of Portland.
