Police: Speed Likely Factor in Man's ATV Crash Death

Police say speed was likely a factor in an all-terrain vehicle crash that killed a Wiscasset, Maine, man in rural Somerset County.

Sixty-five-year-old Charles Abbott died after he crashed in the township east of Forks Plantation on Monday. The Kennebec Journal reports Abbott was following a friend on a separate ATV when he veered off the dirt road and struck a tree.

Police say Abbott was pronounced dead at the scene. West Forks Fire and Rescue and Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance assisted, and a LifeFlight helicopter also was called.
