Search Expands for Missing Hiker in Maine

About 80 people are involved in a search in Maine's Baxter State Park for a 78-year-old man who failed to return from a hike on Thursday.

John Lyon was last seen hiking on the Mount Coe trail between Mount Coe and South Brother Mountain around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The Virginia man had been hiking with three others, but left the group at lunch to hike ahead on the total 10-mile loop.

The park director says the search was expanded on Saturday, with volunteers, rescue teams and other personnel.

The Portland Press Herald reports that the park has closed the Marston trailhead and the Marston and Coe trails to assist in the search.
