Selectman Arrested for Arson

The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office has arrested two men on arson charges in connection to a house fire last year.

Scott MacNichol, 35, who serves as member on the Perry Board of Selectmen, is charged with two counts of arson and criminal conspiracy to commit arson.

In addition, 36-year-old Jeffrey Morrison is charged with perjury, two counts of arson, criminal conspiracy to commit arson, and insurance deception.

The arrests come after the investigation into a blaze that destroyed a single-family home belonging to Morrison on Lake Road in Perry in April of 2014. Investigators say the house was burned to collect insurance proceeds.
