Maine State Police stumbled onto more than 200 marijuana plants being grown at a home, but say they weren't originally there for it.
Police say a trooper went to a home in West Newfield to check on the welfare of a child, but stumbled on an "elaborate" marijuana grow operation.
The homeowner allegedly had 1 pound of marijuana, 4.3 ounces of processed marijuana, about five pounds of marijuana drying out, 27 flowering plants, 21 seedling plants and about 200-300 marijuana plants in vegetation.
The 32-year-old homeowner allegedly showed authorities his medical marijuana certificate, which state police point out allows medical marijuana growers to only have up to 2.5 ounces of processed marijuana, 6 flowering plants and 12 marijuana seedling plants.
The homeowner, whose name has not been released, was summonsed for aggravated cultivation of marijuana and unlawful possession.
The DEA and York County Sheriff's Department helped with the investigation.
