Travel Agent Pleads Guilty to Mail, Wire Fraud

The owner of a Saco, Maine, travel agency who took payments for clients for trips she never booked has pleaded guilty

The owner of a Saco, Maine, travel agency who took payments for clients for trips she never booked has pleaded guilty.

Beth Rogers in a hearing Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud.

Prosecutors say as owner of TravelWise Cruises and Tours, the 45-year-old Rogers booked individual clients and companies with tour operators, hotels, airlines, cruise companies and other businesses.

Prosecutors say she took money without making travel reservations for some clients but instead used the clients' money to pay for the travel of other clients.

In some cases, she used client credit cards to pay for another client's travel without the first client's permission.

Authorities say she misapplied money from more than 50 clients.

Sentencing was scheduled for July 10.
