A Maine state trooper responding to a three-car crash on icy Interstate 95 in Pittsfield ended up putting a dent in the local drug trade.

Police say a search of one of the vehicles involved in the crash Sunday afternoon yielded 40 grams of heroin, a small amount of marijuana and $1,000 in cash.

Police arrested 23-year-old James Aponte, who was allegedly in possession of the heroin, and charged him with aggravated trafficking. Two other men in the vehicle were not charged. Police say all three were from Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Police tell the Morning Sentinel that the drugs had a street value of at least $10,000.

Aponte was held on $20,000 bail. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
