UMaine President to Stay on for an Extra Year

The first woman to serve as president of the University of Maine has agreed to stay on for an additional year.

Susan Hunter agreed to remain on the job through June 30, 2017, to maintain continuity during UMaine System Chancellor James Page's One University initiative aimed to promoting efficiency and eliminating duplication at the seven campuses.

Page said Wednesday that "experience and leadership are critical as we work through the significant System changes now underway."

Connor Scott, student representative to the University of Maine System, said Hunter's past posts from adjunct professor to vice president for academy affairs make her "uniquely qualified to continue to lead the University during this time of change."
