Volunteer Divers Recover Body of Missing Canoeist in Maine

Volunteer divers with the Passamaquoddy Tribe have recovered the body of a missing canoeist.

The Maine Department of Marine Resources says divers found the Pleasant Point man's body Wednesday evening just off Carlow Island in Eastport.

Officials say 23-year-old Majik Francis had been missing since Sunday afternoon when a canoe he was in overturned between Eastport and Pleasant Point. Two other people in the canoe made it to shore and called for help.

The Maine Marine Patrol had been searching the area by water, land and air, since Sunday. Many members of the Passamaquoddy Tribe also had been participating in the search.
