Wardens Use Plane to Help Appalachian Trail Hiker

The Maine Wardens Service says an Appalachian Trail hiker was rescued by wardens who used a float plane to reach him in a remote area along the trail.

Wardens say the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office received the 911 call just after noon Friday from 25-year-old Devin Kaufman, of Fairfield.

Wardens determined Kaufman was on the Appalachian Trail in Rainbow Township, near the southeast end of Rainbow Lake.

Two game wardens were flown in by a warden service aircraft and dropped off at the shore of Rainbow Lake where they located Kaufman who was ill and weak.

Kaufman was then flown to Greenville where he was taken to C.A. Dean Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

There is no word on Kaufman's condition.
