White Supremacist Arrested After Chase in Maine

The man tried to flee on a probation violation

Police say a Maine man who identifies as a member of a white supremacist group was arrested after trying to flee police on a probation violation.

Old Orchard Beach police say 27-year-old Jacob Hastings was charged Thursday with violating probation for robbery and aggravated criminal mischief.

Police say the Augusta man fled when they tried to apprehend him at a rental property. He allegedly tried to steal a vehicle, but was interrupted.

Police say officers subdued Hastings with a Taser after he kicked out a window in their cruiser. He was hospitalized with minor injuries before being taken to jail. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.

Police Chief Timothy DeLuca says the state Department of Corrections confirmed Hastings is a member of an Idaho-based white supremacist religious organization.
