Crews in Rangely, Maine, worked together in a three-hour operation to save a driver who crashed his vehicle over a guardrail and dangled 60 feet over a gorge.
The incident happened Thursday night off Route 4 at Small Falls, according to necn affiliate WCSH.
Fire Chief Tim Pellerin said the vehicle was teetering over a ledge and could have fallen further. Crews used rope-training techniques to create a harness to secure the vehicle.
Crews were able to reach the vehicle, cut a hole in it and rescue the driver, who was alert, but was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
