Police have charged a Saco, Maine, woman they allege stole more than $37,000 from a legally blind man she had volunteered to care for.

York County Sheriff William King Jr. says 52-year-old Susan Sajecki withdrew money from the 78-year-old man's bank account and made unauthorized charges to his credit card which combined added up to more than $37,000.

The man, who is housebound, told police he did not authorize the checks and did not authorize the charges to his credit card.

Sajecki was found at her home and was charged with theft by unauthorized taking.

She is in jail on $5,000 bail pending arraignment scheduled for Wednesday and it's not clear if she has a lawyer.
