A Waterville, Maine, woman who stabbed another woman during what prosecutors say was a botched drug deal has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Carrisa Butkewicz was sentenced Tuesday to serve seven years of a 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to the November stabbing of Kathryn Hopkins. She also received four years' probation.
In exchange, prosecutors dropped some more serious charges.
Authorities say the 23-year-old Butkewicz and another woman met Hopkins on a remote road in China to buy a prescription pill.
A struggle ensued inside a vehicle and Hopkins received a knife wound that punctured her intestines.
The Morning Sentinel reports that Butkewicz's lawyer says his client is remorseful.
Charges against the other woman are pending.
