Woman Seriously Injured After Striking, Killing Moose

Shawna Newton was unable to avoid the moose and crashed into it

Maine State Police say a woman was seriously injured after she crashed into a moose Monday night on I-95 in Howland, killing it.

Shawna Newton, 22, of Bangor, and her passenger, Eric Rizzardini, 32, of Arizona, were traveling south on I-95, according to necn affiliate WCSH.

Newton was unable to avoid the moose and crashed into it, sending her vehicle off the road and into a median.

She was flown to a hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

Rizzardini was taken to Penobscot Valley Hospital where he was treated and released.
